Take your Golden Retriever for Walks

November 3rd, 2006

Golden retrievers are very active dogs and need to stay physical throughout their day.  It is important to make sure that you are doing your best to make sure that they are doing exercise on a regular basis so that they can stay fit and healthy so that they can stay with your for a longer period of time.

Golden retrievers do not like to be bored.  They need to have physical attention and activity to keep them energized.  It is important to make sure that they are getting a healthy form of exercise each day so that they can stay healthy and fit for a long time to come.  Giving your dog a great walk at least every other night of the week will help to maintain their health and beauty.

When you want to take your golden retriever for a walk, you may want to do so in a non-traffic area.  If you do have traffic around you, it is important to make sure that you have them on a leash.  You can find many lengths to make sure that the dog has enough space to walk comfortably from you.  If your dog would start to act up at the sight of another person or animal, all you have to do is gently tug on the leash and they will soon calm down.

You should be taking your dog on walk for at least twenty to thirty minutes a day. This will get them the fresh air and the exercise that they are in need of.  If you cannot get out everyday, then try to get in good long walk at least every other day.  This will allow you both times to get exercise as well as spending quality time with your dog as well.

You should adjust the length of the walk to fit your golden retrievers needs.  Do not make the walk too long or short.  You want to allow them enough time to get their body in shape as well as get them motivated to move around and get the exercise that is recommended for them.

You can allow your dog to be friendly to other people that you pass on your walk.  You should not tell them no and tug at them when a stranger approaches.  You want the dog to become social with other people and even dogs.  Give them some time to smell and find their surroundings.

It is good idea to make sure that you are carrying along a scoop and paper bag so that you can clean up after your dog if they have an accident on your walk.  Make sure that you are doing this not only to comply with your town rules and regulations, but to also keep the environment safe and healthier.

Allowing your dog to have a good and healthy walk will give them the opportunity to maintain mental stimulation and health.  You should walk your golden retriever to help eliminate or help inappropriate behavior that your dog may be experiencing.

Purchasing a Golden Retriever and your Family

November 2nd, 2006

When purchasing a new pup, you will need to put some thought into the breed of dog that you bring into your home. You will need to know the behavior of the dog and the type of dog that the breed portrays. Many people fall in love with a dog, bring it into their home, and find out that it’s not exactly what they bargained for. First, you will want to look at the type of home that the dog will be brought into. Do you have a family?  Are you looking for a companion?  Are you looking for protection?

As for the golden retriever, it is the perfect dog for those who are looking for a companion or who have a family. These dogs are not for protection. Although a golden retriever will attack, it must feel threatened. Strangers are welcomed by the retriever. They hardly ever bite, but their bark can be loud and fierce. They will settle down after awhile, but they like to alert their master of newcomers.

As for their behavior, they are extremely friendly. They love children and are a good pet for a little girl or boy. The breed is extremely loyal as well. They will follow you around the house and watch everything that you do. You will find that your retriever will want to go everywhere with you. As for their size, they are a medium dog.

They can grow up to two feet and weigh anywhere from 60-80 pounds. They desire a lot of attention. They are the perfect companions. This type of dog will follow you to the door every morning and they will wait patiently for your return. However, they will get lonely very easily. A lonely retriever means a messy house. You will need to place them in a kettle while you are away or the house will be destroyed.

These dogs need to be active. They need to go outside and run every couple hours. You can bring them to an apartment as long as you walk them often. They need to outside to play and to run and burn off all their energy.

They love to play games, especially ball. They are quick learners and will be house trained in relatively short period of time. As long as you are consistent with their punishments, you will find that they won’t repeat an accident or act that often. These types of dogs live for their master. If you tell them that you are disappointed, they will spend the rest of the night trying to make it up to you. They thrive on human contact and work well with other dogs.
